| And every story needs a listener. |
The job of family caregiver can be all-consuming, somehow laying claim to every minute of the day. Here’s a little video featuring ALS caregivers that describes that reality with clarity and grace.
My own experience is that every family caregiver has a story to tell. What is often missing, however, is someone to listen to the story. In practical terms, therefore, one of the kindest and most supportive things you can do is to sit with a caregiver for an hour and just listen.
You don’t have to know the answer to every question or the solution to every problem. Caregivers get that kind of information from healthcare providers, financial advisors and other professionals anyway.
As a listener, you help a caregiver feel less isolated and alone. That can make all the difference.
